Viagra, which is sold under the brand name Cialis, is prescribed to men over 18 for erectile dysfunction. The drug also treats conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is caused by enlarged prostate gland. The FDA said Viagra is approved to treat erectile dysfunction.
The FDA said it is working with manufacturers and regulatory agencies to add more safety warnings about heart attack and stroke risk and other serious health conditions to Viagra's label. Viagra can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, especially when taken for longer than recommended.
In a statement, Eli Lilly & Co. said the company will revise its safety information to include warning labels such as "Heart attack and stroke risk," "Coronary artery disease risk," and "Low blood pressure."
Lilly also said it would add the following statement about Viagra: "We strongly believe the potential for serious health risks associated with Viagra is a concern for consumers. Our FDA-approved drug is approved to treat erectile dysfunction and is a safe and effective treatment for these conditions."
The drug is sold under the brand name Cialis in many countries, including the United States, and in several other countries, including Canada and Australia.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is introducing new rules for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men who have been on Viagra for a year and have taken it off the market.

The new guidelines will allow men who have taken Viagra to be treated with a generic version if they were prescribed the medication at the same time every day for at least three months.
